Become a Volunteer

This year we have two weeks of camp. August 9th to 14th is the older week and August 14th to 19th is the younger week.

Every volunteer is paired with a camper (a child with MD). Throughout the week you'll be with your camper constantly. You sleep in the same cabins, go to meals together, do activities together, etc. Once at camp you'll be divided into groups; these groups are basically your teammates. You can rely on them for anything. You have group cheers, group flags, and you do a lot of activities together as a group. We also have competitions between the groups. Group leaders are there for you throughout the week, so don't be afraid to go to them for help! If you need a break, need help, or just need to talk, the GL's are there for you! The support system at camp is amazing!

Like said earlier, during the week you do everything with your camper. Camp is held at the YMCA Camp Roger. We'll stay in cabins and we even have flushing toilets and showers! We try to do activities that these kids couldn't normally do. We do things like adaptive soccer, wheelchair basketball, horseback riding, and we have some really cool people come and visit us (like superheros, the fire department, magicians, and our amazing sponsors)!

While we do a lot of fun stuff, there is a lot of responsibility too! Don't let this scare you! Your main job is to make sure the camper is safe and having fun. You are responsible for making sure they are drinking enough, eating at meals, taking their meds, and keeping up on their hygiene.

This is the most amazing experience and these kids will change your life. These kids have changed my life and I promise they will change yours too! Every year at camp I hear campers saying "This is the best week of my life!" This camp means so much to these kids and great volunteers make this week possible.
